Roblyn Powley is an MFA candidate in Visual Communication Design at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. With a strong focus on design education, gender representation in design, typography, and critical pedagogy, her academic work spans a wide array of topics, from semiotics and visual identity systems to expanding design history pedagogy, while her design projects have explored net neutrality, motion design, and the history and development of slab serif typefaces. Roblyn’s current research, the “Inclusive Design Archive” conceptualizes an AI-powered tool to help art and design educators diversify their curricula by exploring non-traditional creators, methodologies, and alternative histories.
As a graduate student with a passion for teaching, Roblyn aims to contribute to university-level design education, focusing on fostering inclusive and critical thinking in the studio classroom. Driven by curiosity and critical engagement, Roblyn strives to create thought-provoking work and design innovative educational design experiences. In her studio practice she explores a range of subjects and media, from screen-printed zines and to multimedia motion-design work.
